The first store was probably the grocery store set up on the corner of Sutling St and Moggill Rd before 1894 by Thomas Sparrow and his wife Mary Ann, who came to Australia from England in 1871.

They continued this grocery business for 30 years until the 1920s. Thomas was a member of the Indooroopilly Divisional Board and a life member of the Indooroopilly Progress Association.

There were a few other small stores after 1900. One was run by Mrs Johnstone under her house in Burns Road.

The first General Store was established in 1919 at what is currently the Kenmore roundabout by George Mildown and Frank Cox. It would have sold everything from bread, groceries and fruit & vegetable, to hardware and farm requirements.

After 1937 there were several other owners including Keith Jang & his wife Joyce who ran a mixed business at this site from 1949.

Now the supermarkets have replaced most of the general stores and the mixed businesses that were so prominent 100 years ago.
